Building Confidence

Does your cheerleader have confidence?  At times lack of confidence creeps up on all of us. I ran across an article in Psychology Today that had some tips on building confidence. This is helpful especially for cheerleaders due to the differences in skills, body type, hair, uniform and many more reasons. The following tips focus on mind, spirit and body.

Positive thoughts do wonders for the mind and spirit.

  1. Make three lists: one of your strengths, one of your achievements and one of the things that you admire about yourself. Why does this help? It allows the cheerleader to be reminded of all the qualities they already possess. Mind
  2. Think positively about yourself.Positive thoughts do wonders for the mind and spirit.  To have this habit will make the practices and competitions easier. Spirit
  3. Eat good food as part of a healthy, balanced lifestyle. When the body is nourished so will the mind. (I did change the word lifestyle from diet because the word diet is often seen as temporary.  Our cheerleaders should always aim for a balanced lifestyle.) Body
  4.   Ensure that you are getting enough sleep.Tiredness = irritability = crankiness = bad attitude = insecurities = lack of confidenceEnough sleep allows the mind, spirit and body to rest and rejuvenate.

The listed tips will help in building confidence.
